FRENCH COURSES WITH CHRISTINE

Christine is a native of France, hailing from Poissy in Les Yvelines, but 14 years living and teaching in Wales has left her enviably bilingual, albeit with a slight Welsh accent!

She followed a degree in commerce with a Masters in English from the Université de la Sorbonne. The latter required her to spend a year in the UK as a French assistante, and she returned to west Wales, where she’d earlier spent two months at a riding stables in Nolton Haven (www.noltonstables.com), and worked in Haverfordwest. After completing her Masters she chose to stay in Wales and obtained a PGCE (teaching degree) from Aberystwyth University. Apart from a year travelling the following 12 years were spent teaching, for the most part in Ysgol Dewi Sant, in St.Davids. She set up a successful exchange programme, and produced excellent GSCE and A level results.

Since moving to the Charente in 2006 Christine has taught English conversation to students at the local Collège, and has worked with local British people, adults and children, as they seek to integrate into the local communities.

The great advantage of working with Christine at Le Petit Roc is that your study will be tailored to your requirements, whether that be revision for your GCSE or A level, improving your reading or speaking skills or a crash course in grammar. You don’t have to fit in with the course provided because she will fit it to your needs.

Moreover you can be as independent, or dependent on us, as you wish. If you come as an individual or with a friend then you can eat “en famille” with the conversation in French, or English, depending how energetic you feel. We can arrange transfers to and from airports or train stations, and provide transport into Chalais and Aubeterre once you’re here. Or you can stay in one of our gites and the French tuition will be built into a holiday which might also include walking, tennis, and sunbathing by the pool!

In HIGH SEASON (July/August) French tuition is available as an extra, normally as afternoon lessons, shaded from the Charente heat. The focus will probably be on grammar and conversation, and Christine will encourage you to practise your new skills in the local shops and restaurants.

Outside of HIGH SEASON Christine offers French tuition tailored to your requirements. This can be built into a week’s stay in one of our gites, or a 3 or 4 day intensive course as part of a wider French holiday. Or you may wish to leave everything in our hands; be picked up from the airport, eat your evening meal with us, be driven to Chalais market, and have three or four hours tuition each day – see sample itinerary.

EXAM REVISION Courses will normally run during the UK Easter holidays and possibly for a week either side of those dates. In this case there would need to be some communication; the exam board, areas of strength and weakness, etc, prior to arrival. These courses can run for one or more children staying at Le Petit Roc with their families, or be independent holidays for one or more students, with airport pick ups, meals with the family, tuition and supervised homework, and some activities built in – see sample itinerary.
