HORSERIDING AT LE PETIT ROC

Horse riding was, and still is, a passion for your host, Christine. She was a very proficient show jumper in her youth in the north of France, and she still rides once or twice a week, as does our oldest son Mathieu, at a nearby riding school just across the River Dronne in the Dordogne..

But our region of Sud Charente is perfect for horse riding with its gently rolling hills, beautiful valleys, and patch work forests to provide welcome shade in the hot summer afternoons. There are three or four stables within easy reach of Le Petit Roc, all of which offer individual and group lessons, and hacks through the unspoilt countryside. There are so many walking paths and farm tracks that it is rare to be close to a tarmacked road and, even then, traffic is infrequent.

One of the big advantages of spending some time in the saddle whilst staying at Le Petit Roc is the very good value of the riding schools here. An hour’s lesson or hack costs c.16 euros (25 euros for 2 hours) so take advantage of the cool of the summer mornings to improve your skills and work up an appetite!

If you have a group of riders of different ability it is usually possible for everyone to start off together, and for the group to split later on so that some riders can canter whilst the others stroll lazily on.

If you want a tailor made riding break with airport transfers, transport to the riding school/s (and to Chalais and restaurants), and lessons and hacks organised, then we will be only too glad to put together an itinerary. This would be best done out of high season(July/August). In those months we will still be happy to organise your riding activities, if required.
