Thank you!

We had a fabulous stay at Le Petit Roc for a few days this summer.
Firstly, what great hosts! we were so well looked after by Tricia and Mark, and their daughters.
Our gite was the perfect size, with 2 large bedrooms for 4 of us. Well equipped and clean, and we could see that all aspects of the rooms were well maintained. The views were great too.
The lounge and dining area was huge, and the kitchen had all the tools etc just like home.
Outside, the patio area and the swimming pool were great for relaxing in, and the pool was heated ! Really nice touch which meant that the pool was well used. The kids also played tennis and the facilities were great to have.
We explored surrounding towns esp with their markets. We also did canoeing, some sight seeing as well as relaxing in local cafe.
This was a great location as a base.
We had really enjoyable time here.
We cannot recommend Le Petit Roc and our hosts highly enough.

Joseph Huang,

Waking up with a dip in the pool before breakfast on the terrace… tootling off to buy fresh bread and cheese at the market in Aubeterre… a picnic by the river and a lazy afternoon canoeing… back for a set or two of tennis and a cool drink in the shade…

Same again tomorrow? That sounds lovely! Although there is ping pong to be played and books to be read and the golf course to be enjoyed and Riberac to be explored… Ah, where has the time gone…?

We had a supremely relaxing fortnight here where we achieved very little but did everything we wanted to do!

The accommodation

Le Petit Roc is 4-gites-in-1 so it’s suitable for families and groups of different sizes. Our gite was clean and beautifully renovated with plenty of useful kit including a barbecue, Wii and air conditioning. The pool, ping pong, tennis court and boules area are shared between the 4 gites. The helpful property manager (English-speaking) was on hand just in case.

The area

The nearest town, Chalais (5 minutes’ drive), has a large supermarket, street market and a large open-air pool with diving boards.

Aubeterre (15 minutes’ drive away) is one of the most beautiful villages in France, with a stunning square, subterranean church and lovely restaurants and quirky shops. There are oodles of places to explore in the wider Dordogne area and the owner has compiled a very useful portfolio with details of things to do using Le Petit Roc as a base, including historic sites, shopping, golf, horse-riding and vineyards.

In summary

There aren’t many places we visit where everyone in our family says “I definitely want to come back” - Le Petit Roc is one of them.

Richard, Rachel & Harry

Richard Happer,

Le Petit Roc is a wonderful place for a family holiday. We fell in love with it when we first came here with our 3 children in 2013 and have returned many times since. It is surrounded by fields of sunflowers and has beautiful grounds including a pool, table tennis and a tennis court. It is typical charantaise farmhouse split into gites of varying sizes. They are all charming with everything you could need for a lovely holiday. We would recommend it highly!

Rebecca Hunt,

Le Petit Roc was a charming and delightful provincial cottage in the French countryside, situated along a country road. It's a great place to gather with family - there's a pool and a tennis court, nearby country villages to check out, wine tasting, hiking and kayaking close by, and picturesque outdoor markets. The house itself has a lovely patio for outdoor dining and hosts, Mark and Trish, are very welcoming and knowledgeable about the area.

Natasha Carter,

Le Petit Roc is just gorgeous, such a great place for families or groups of friends to holiday, with everything you need to suit everyone's needs; tennis court, gorgeous heated swimming pool and loads of other activities. The countryside is picturesque, there are many villages in the surrounding areas to explore, local markets, restaurants, canoeing and more. The property has everything you need and is well equipped for an idyllic and quintessential French countryside holiday.

Dana & Angus,

We stayed at Le Petit Roc recently and had a fantastic week surrounded by the beautiful French countryside. The house has plenty to keep you occupied with tennis court, swimming pool, badminton, table tennis alongside a large array of board games, Wii and TV! Our host was great at giving recommendations of things to do in the local area - we particularly enjoyed the historic cities and wine tastings.

I would certainly recommend to anyone who wants to enjoy all that the French countryside has to offer!

John Bryant,

We stayed for a week last summer at Le Petit Roc and had a fabulous time. We were in Le Pommier which was lovely and had everything that we needed, but best of all were the facilities which kept the kids occupied all day every day - especially the pool and tennis court. It's really well run and the decor is great. The location in the countryside is fantastic, surrounded by fields, and some great places to visit nearby. Can very much recommend the canoeing for anyone with children. Can't speak highly enough about it.

Ian D,

Second visit and we will be going back! Gorgeous property in the most stunning location, surrounded by undulating countryside. A haven for families. Something for children and adults of all ages: beautiful, large, heated pool, tennis court, volleyball court and manicured grounds to explore. There are many beautiful villages within easy reach (which have weekly markets) and there are lakes and rivers with water sports for all ages. Quiet roads and easy parking guarantee stress-free outings. Aubeterre is particularly pretty, with a picturesque square, lovely restaurants and shops. It also boasts a subterranean neolithic church! My children (age 12 and 10) and I had a wonderful, relaxing, fun, week.

Ilona H,

We had a lovely week's stay at Le Petit Roc - it's a great place to unwind. The main house is split into three and with the cottage in the grounds you have four separate properties with their own outdoor spaces that are not overlooked, each with their own front door. The new owners have renovated the pool area with new decking and fencing. The grounds including the tennis court are great too - lots of freedom for the children and places to play. We had not been to the area before (previously stayed more in Languedoc or nearer to Biarritz) - we really liked the area for cycling, walking, river swimming, horse riding, high ropes, lake with inflatables and kayaking. Chalais market on Mondays was good as was Aubeterre as a pretty local village. Outside the immediate area would recommend a trip to Saint Emilion. We did not make it to the coast but that's a very do-able day trip. Definitely would stay here again!

Pat H,

We spent 3 weeks at Le Petit Roc when our baby was just a few months old. It's a beautiful escape from city life and lovely place to relax as a family - with lots of amenities on your doorstep if you choose: swimming, tennis, lawn games (petanque, etc). For us, though, the best part was taking advantage of the surrounding local markets (Chalais, etc) and enjoying our market finds back at the comfortable grounds of LPR. With a different market nearly every day in the surrounding villages, you certainly have your pick of Bordeaux's best cheeses, fresh breads and produce ... and wine, of course!
